i'm having problem configuring nginx server, whatever do, seems changes not recognized nginx

i have directory called /var/www/hidden want deny all, that's pretty much all. tried add together /nginx_status didn't work either.

http { ## these changes server { location /hidden/ { deny all; } location /nginx_status { stub_status on; } } }

i set changes downwards @ bottom of http block. well, said, whatever do, doesn't work, it's easy thing can't figure out.
