html5 - Why is Firefox closing null html tags? -

i have noticed in firefox when view source adding closing tags null tag items such <hr> , <img src="image.jpg">. viewing source in firefox see <hr></hr> , <img src="image.jpg"></img>. document html 5 , not xhtml, , tags null tags should not strictly closed in html. why firefox doing this?

i'm guessing not using view source, instead using firefox developer tools browser inspector? done because there has end each tag inspector explicitly showing end point.
