session - How facebook/other sites know what I browsed? -
i see facebook comes relevant ads moments after visited travel site or e-commerce site. how work?
do these sites drop cookies , allow social sites read them? possible share cookies across domains?
is there server-server communication happening each of these partners share details each other user @ particular ip doing?
i want understand technology concepts behind "targeted ads using browsing history" (definitely not homework topic. been out of college 6 years ago :))
it's called re-targeting , uses third-party cookies.
when visit website a, script on site sends message advertisement broker (the 'third party') details identify , products have browsed.
then, when later visit website b (who has script provided advertisement broker) send message identification , request relevant ads.
if advertisement broker has details on file, provide relevant ads based on browsing history, otherwise send generic ads, or ads based on content of page viewing on website b.
