what is ref in Erlang? -

to identify process,we using pid.but when should ref used?
i see while msg sending/receiving unable interpret role plays in message interaction.
to quote documentation
a reference term unique in erlang runtime system, created calling make_ref/0.
this means special info type, it's not integer, not list, , not binary. unique prosperity. it's designed recognize places in code. make_ref(), no matter called, homecoming new value (in boundaries of it's size of course). , fred describes in it's book, great tagging messages, , recognizing if message receive in response 1 send.
