his method: example.com/m/index points @ m.example.com/index , redirects through htaccess

my method: m.example.com virtual host created in httpd.conf , told utilize folder path example.com/m root

what pros , cons of doing either method? sense vhost "proper" way , cleaner way. don't want throw more garbage in htaccess file if not needed.
